While the USC Gamecocks are in town, head coach Dawn Staley’s nonprofit is making sure to give back to fans and the community. Dozens of kids were given a special gift Friday at the West Greenville Community Center.
For about 10 years now coach Dawn Staley’s nonprofit, Innersole, has been giving sneakers to more than 30,000 kids. The organization is lending a hand for those who need it, but also helping kids feel good and build confidence.
“I was happy because I never had these shoes before,” said Zyhiry Davis showing off her new pink Nike’s.
Thursday, Innersole stopped by the Sterling Community Center as well. Absolute Total Care also gave out bags of school supplies to further support the community.
“The way that children are faced with adversity and everything that’s going on—you always have to give them an encouraging word and make them look up to positive things and this is a very positive event,” said Katrina Wofford, Director of the West Greenville Community Center.
Busy with the tournament, coach Staley couldn’t stop by, but the mission was a success.
“Nike shoes, I really like them,” said Elana Balogun excitedly.
