Chef Throwdown Makes Its Way to Greenville on Aug. 1
The city of Greenville is all set to host a thrilling culinary event on Aug. 1, courtesy of Social Latitude – the annual Iron Caterer Throwdown. Top chefs from various corners of the city will come together at The 405 Venue in a nerve-wracking and mouthwatering battle of culinary skills and creativity.
The Epic Culinary Battle
Four stellar chefs will compete against each other, demonstrating their prowess in creating three courses in a span of approximately 20 minutes. The pressure won’t just be about the ticking clock, but the variety of dishes they have to create using three secret ingredients. Judgement will be based on their presentation, creativity, taste, and entertainment value. And like any competition worth its salt, at the end, there will only be one Iron Caterer Throwdown champion.
Participating in this year’s throwdown are:
- Mike Sibert, Upstate chef ambassador for 2024 and owner of businesses like Anonymous Burgers, Hendrix Chicken & Waffles, and White Wine & Butter
- Addison Stone, executive chef at City Club of Greenville
- Cima Mathur, owner and chef of Persis Biryani Indian Grill
- Jonathan Smiley, chef at Embassy Suites by Hilton Greenville Golf Resort & Conference Center
Judges for the Event
Last year’s champion, Greg Teal of Table 301, will be returning, not to compete but to judge this year’s event. He will be joined by an esteemed panel of judges including Chris Rosensteel of Society Sandwich Bar & Social Club, owner and chef of Comal 864 Dayna Lee-Marquez, CEO and owner of Larkin’s, Kristina Murphy and Chef T., a celebrity and executive chef at Union 41 in Bristol, Virginia.
The 405 venue, located at 405 Westfield St. in Greenville, will come alive from 5 to 10 p.m. Tickets for the event are available on Eventbrite.
Iron Caterer Contestant Mike Sibert’s Big Move
In other news, Upstate Chef Ambassador, Mike Sibert, is making headlines with his announcement of White Wine & Butter’s anticipated move into Greer Golf Course. The restaurant is expected to kick start its operations in the fall, offering a full bar and menu jam-packed with old favorites and exciting new offerings.
Local Cue Stops Alcohol Sales
Teetering on the economic challenges, Local Cue, a popular sports bar in Greenville, has put a halt to its alcohol sales. Citing the surge in liquor liability insurance premiums as the root cause, the proprietors look for ways to adapt to the skyrocketing insurance costs that have become an alarming issue across the state.
