Greer: BMW Charity Pro-Am Raises Over $625,000 for Upstate Causes

This past week, excitement buzzed through Greer as news broke that the BMW Charity Pro-Am, presented by TD Synnex, managed to raise an incredible $625,000 for eight Upstate charities! The announcement came from South Carolina Charities Inc., a non-profit foundation that organizes this annual golf tournament. How wonderful is it to see so much generosity flowing from this exciting event?

The tournament itself took place from June 3-9 at the prestigious Thornblade Club in Greer and The Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg. It has become a highlight for golf enthusiasts and community supporters alike, but it’s the cause behind it that truly makes it special. Since its inception in 2001, the BMW Charity Pro-Am has awarded over $16 million to local non-profit organizations, an achievement that speaks volumes about the commitment to uplift the community.

Celebrating Community Spirit

Bob Stegner, the president of South Carolina Charities Inc., expressed immense pride in how the tournament has positively impacted the area. “The funds raised this year will help these outstanding Upstate organizations continue their essential work. We are grateful to everyone involved — our team, sponsors, partners, volunteers, and tournament participants. It’s an honor to be part of an event that brings people together for causes much greater than the game of golf itself,” he shared in a recent news release. Isn’t it heartwarming to know that these efforts are addressing real needs in the community?

The eight charities that will benefit from the funds are a mix of local heroes, working tirelessly to make a difference. While the specific organizations receiving the checks were not detailed in the announcement, each one plays a crucial role in enhancing the lives of those in need. The beauty of the BMW Charity Pro-Am lies in its ability to not only showcase top-notch golfing but also to shine a spotlight on the remarkable work done by these charities.

Valuable Programs and Special Events

One of the highlights this year was the Military and First Responders Day event. This special occasion supported two important causes: the Upstate Warrior Solution and the Palmetto State Chapter of Folds of Honor. It’s these kinds of initiatives that resonate with participants, creating an even more meaningful experience beyond just playing golf.

The tournament also featured a continued partnership through the Birdies for Charity program, which offered donors the chance to contribute either a one-time flat donation or a pledge based on the number of birdies scored during the competition. This innovative approach allows sponsors to connect not just with the event, but to see how their contributions help the community.

New Faces on the Board

To further the good work, South Carolina Charities Inc. announced the addition of two new members to their board: Joe Bryant, executive vice president at Seamon Whiteside & Associates, and Neal Gilmore, a human resource marketing and recruiting manager at BMW Manufacturing. Their expertise and commitment are sure to enhance the organization’s mission to give back.

Michael McGovern, tournament director, also conveyed his enthusiasm, stating, “The BMW Charity Pro-Am is a wonderful example of community spirit. With the support of our board members, including our newest additions, we look forward to continuing this tradition of giving back and making a lasting impact in the Upstate.”

Looking Ahead

Looking to the future, the BMW Charity Pro-Am is set to celebrate its 25th anniversary during the 2025 tournament. This milestone offers an exciting opportunity to further elevate the event with the return of a celebrity red carpet event in downtown Greenville. Mark your calendars! Next year’s tournament is scheduled for June 2-8.

As the Upstate community basks in the glow of this year’s successes, there’s no denying the spirit of camaraderie and compassion that makes events like the BMW Charity Pro-Am so special. It’s a heartwarming reminder of how sports and philanthropy can come together to create lasting change. Here’s to more drives, birdies, and, most importantly, community upliftment in the years to come!
