Greenville, get ready to embrace a fusion of flavors as Augusta Street Market gears up to open its doors on November 16! Nestled in the former Tasty as Fit spot at 3017 Augusta St., this exciting venture promises to offer a New York-style deli experience mixed with that warm Southern hospitality we all know and love. This delightful concept springs from the creative minds of longtime Greenville resident and former Tasty as Fit co-owner Shane Taylor and newcomer Nick Petracca, who’s ready to spice up the local food scene.
Believe it or not, Petracca’s journey into the culinary world started way back in Long Island, where he was steeped in a rich blend of Italian and Jewish cuisine. “It’s interesting how hyper-local some regional cuisine is,” Petracca explains. Having grown up indulging in perfect breakfast sandwiches and delicious chicken cutlets, he’s excited to bring those flavors to Greenville. And although he has a background in investment banking, he’s always dreamed of opening a restaurant – and now, his dreams are coming true!
Petracca and Taylor crossed paths thanks to a family connection; Petracca’s wife is friends with Taylor’s niece, who happens to be Emilie Blanchard, founder of Tasty as Fit. When the original location closed in 2022, Taylor seized the opportunity. “I loved the location and didn’t want to give the lease up,” he said. This serendipitous partnership has blossomed into a delightful new deli that’s bound to turn heads.
Now, let’s talk food! You can expect a hearty Italian-American influence on the menu, highlighted by creations like The Mulberry, a must-try lunch sandwich stacked with chicken cutlet, mozzarella or burrata, vodka sauce, braised tomatoes, and crispy fried basil. Talk about mouth-watering! The deli case will be brimming with tantalizing options like chicken salads, delightful pastas, and fresh chopped salads.
But that’s not all! Teaming up with culinary expert Chef Josh Griffin, who’s honed his skills in fine dining establishments, means every dish will be a treat. Griffin previously worked at the Country Club of Spartanburg and held the title of culinary director at Judson Mill’s Feed & Seed Co. This partnership is set to elevate Augusta Street Market to new heights.
And let’s not forget about the bread! The team is thrilled to have partnered with Jonathan Allen to whip up fresh breads and pastries. Guests can look forward to sampling Japanese milk bread, kaiser rolls, long rolls, and deliciously crusty sourdough wheat, all baked with care in-house. Yep, you guessed it – everything is made from scratch, from the brining and marinating to the baking!
Augusta Street Market will feature a convenient grab-and-go fridge for those busy days when you’re on the move but still want to indulge in something delicious. Plus, coffee enthusiasts will be delighted to know the market will offer Methodical Coffee, ensuring your caffeine cravings are satisfied. Whether you want to cozy up indoors or soak up the sun on the outdoor seating, there’s a spot waiting for you!
Opening hours will kick off on Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. So, mark your calendars and get ready to dive into the delicious world of Augusta Street Market. This venture is ready to win over your taste buds with every bite!
