Altered States Festival Brings 100 Brewers to Greenville

The Biggest Gathering of its Kind in Greenville

More than one hundred brewers from around the globe, as well as national musicians, will be descending on Greenville for the Third Annual Altered States Libations & Arts Festival, marking its most significant event to date. This phenomenal event is organized by Eighth State Brewing Co.

Beer enthusiasts attending the festival on July 27 will have the opportunity to sample beers from a diverse range of brewers, including the renowned Gamma near Copenhagen, Spartacus from Brazil, and Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co., based out of Charleston.

Music fans will not be disappointed either. A full day of music, running from 11:45 a.m. to 10 p.m., will feature notable acts such as Wednesday – an alt-rock band based in Asheville, electronic musician George Clanton, and Susto – an indie rock band hailing from Charleston.

An Opportunity to Display Greater-than-Local Relationships

A gem of Greenville, Eighth State Brewing’s owner and festival organizer, Cameron Owen, anticipates that the event will bring over 3,000 visitors, including the 100 brewers, 15 wineries, and seven distilleries that will be active on-site.

Attendees can expect a skateboarding area, a section for kids, food from over ten businesses, all amid various vendors. Partnering with musicians and breweries alike for this event, Eighth State Brewing will be exclusively creating a strawberry and banana smoothie-style cider in collaboration with George Clanton’s independent record label – 100% Electronica. The cans of this lip-smacking cider will each contain a QR code that will take the consumer to a unique playlist curated by 100% Electronica.

A Journey from a National Music Festival Promoter to Creating Altered States

Before steering his passion for brewing into Eighth State Brewing, Owen spent his time as a promoter for national music festivals. This passion for brewing led him to turn Eighth State Brewing into an all-incompassing taproom on Augusta Road, offering a rotating selection of both local and national beers, just a few years ago.

Subsequent to setting up the brewery, Owen began Altered States as a ‘very beer-oriented’ event that drew several beer makers to Greenville. Today, it has grown into a larger event that comprises more than just beer, with a lineup of food, vendors, and an abundant mix of music genres not usually played on Greenville’s larger stages.

Owen aims to host the event every 15 months, having it take place in a different season each year.

The Music Artists’ Lineup for the 2024 Altered States Festival

The impressive lineup of artists performing at the festival includes Sillwater, Antiquarian, Wolfgang Zimmerman & Invisible Low End Power, Pictureplane, Auragraph, Secret Attraction, Small Black, Persona La Ave, Enumclaw, Neggy Gemmy, Susto, Com Truise, Wednesday and George Clanton performing at various times throughout the day.
