Greenville County Rallies to Support Hurricane Helene Victims
In Greenville County, South Carolina, the spirit of community is shining bright as residents come together to support those affected by Hurricane Helene in Western North Carolina. From food and water to essential supplies, the Upstate is proving that when it comes to helping others, no one stands alone.

Volunteers have been working tirelessly to gather a variety of donations that are being airlifted to those in desperate need. This beautifully collaborative effort was spearheaded by local residents Isaiah and Lori Burch, who operate Happy Helicopter Tours, and has truly captured the hearts of many.
“It is a community joining together to lend a helping hand to others in need, and that is amazing,” remarked Robert Hoover, Public Information Officer at the Greenville Downtown Airport. The scene at the airport has been nothing short of inspiring, with truckloads of donations pulling out of the parking lot, ready to reach those impacted by the natural disaster.
A Heartfelt Response
Even amidst their own challenges, residents have shown up in droves to contribute what they can. Isaiah Burch expressed his awe over the community’s generous spirit, stating, “I can’t even put it into words. I mean the Greenville community, I have never lived in a place like this in my life.” He emphasized how moving it is to see people bring goods and supplies, even when they might not have enough for themselves. “When their power is still out or they didn’t know if they would have enough gas to get here to donate, it is very, very moving,” he added.
Flying High for Relief
The commitment doesn’t stop at just collecting donations; these items are being flown to areas in need. Pilot Preston Macy, who works with Special Services, shared his experience about the flights. “We have been able to carry about 1,000 pounds of relief supplies per load,” Macy said, detailing that he had completed two loads so far and was gearing up for a third.
Within just a few days, it is estimated that more than 3,000 pounds of goods have already been delivered, making a significant impact on those suffering. The heartfelt sentiment of unity amongst volunteers and community members has been striking, reinforcing just how powerful a dedicated community can be in times of need.
The Call to Action Continues
As the need for support and supplies continues, Robert and his fellow volunteers have expressed determination to keep the effort going. “Seeing that kind of effort and love is something I am just never going to forget,” Burch concluded, emphasizing the importance of community involvement now more than ever. “We will continue to help send supplies for as long as they are needed,” he assured.
