Tragic Crash Claims Life of Teen Mother in Greenville, S.C.
Greenville, S.C. – A tragic car accident on Tuesday morning has left a community in shock as two high school students, who were also young parents, were involved in a deadly crash while they were on their way to pick up their baby from day care.
The Anderson County Coroner’s Office reported that the accident occurred shortly after the students left Belton-Honea Path High School. While driving on Clamp Drive, a large bird suddenly flew in front of their car, causing the driver, 18-year-old Thomas Kennedy, to veer off the road. In an attempt to regain control, he overcorrected, leading to a devastating impact with a tree.
The passenger in the vehicle, identified as 17-year-old Abbigail “Grace” Callaham, tragically lost her life in the accident. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. Callaham was a junior at the high school, while Kennedy was a senior.
Authorities have confirmed that the pair was en route to a day care to collect their 4-month-old child when the incident took place. Thomas Kennedy was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition, as stated by the Highway Patrol.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The community has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Grace Callaham and hopes for a speedy recovery for Thomas Kennedy.
