Emotional Farewell for Scot Baddley: A Celebrated Legacy at the YMCA of Greenville

Greenville, South Carolina, recently witnessed a heartwarming tribute to Scot Baddley, who has been a steadfast leader at the YMCA of Greenville for the past two decades. On September 17, 2023, Baddley was presented with the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to one of the county’s largest health and human services organizations.

A Moment of Honor

The ceremony took on a personal touch when State Representative Bruce Banister presented the award on behalf of Governor Henry McMaster. Baddley, visibly touched, shared, “I feel so incredibly honored to receive that award. The work that we do at the Y, the people that support us the way that they do and enable us to serve families are also the ones that have supported me in so many incredible ways. That award kind of demonstrates their level of love.”

A Legacy of Leadership

Scot Baddley has been the seventh president and CEO of the YMCA of Greenville since 2004. During his impressive tenure, he has overseen significant growth and change within the organization. As the largest YMCA in the state, the facility comprises ten locations and serves an astounding 70,000+ members and program participants each year. This is no small feat, and Baddley’s leadership has been integral to this success.

Under his direction, the YMCA of Greenville has not only increased membership, but it has also built valuable partnerships and enhanced its facilities. Additionally, Baddley has been credited with creating new programs that cater to the needs of the community, showcasing his commitment to delivering impactful services.

Even more remarkable is the over 300% increase in annual campaign proceeds. These figures highlight his skill in fundraising and his ability to mobilize the community around the YMCA’s mission.
