Greenville Jewish Film Festival this Sunday to feature Internationally-Acclaimed Documentary
Debut of “Call Me Dancer” at Gunter Theatre
The Greenville Jewish Film Festival is set to debut an internationally-acclaimed documentary this Sunday, August 25, at the Gunter Theatre. The film’s star is set to not only grace the event with his presence, but also provide an additional treat to festival-goers.
The Story of “Call Me Dancer”
Titled “Call Me Dancer”, the documentary tells the heartwarming story of a former b-boy dancer from Mumbai and his journey of resilience and determination to become a professionally trained dancer, with the assistance of a teacher from Israel. The film envelopes a variety of relationships, depicting moments between a mother and son, teacher and student, and brother and sister.
Special Treat from Film Star Manish Chauhan
Film’s star, Manish Chauhan, provided a sneak peek of his dancing prowess with a performance at the Gunter Theatre, the venue that will host the Greenville Jewish Film Festival. Excitingly for Upstate attendees, he will also offer a dance master class before the film screening, allowing festival-goers to experience a slice of his professional dance career.
“I’m very excited to teach a class because I want to get introduced to the community in Greenville,” Chauhan said, expressing his excitement about interacting with Greenville’s art-loving community.
Cultures Coincide Through Storytelling
“We all have similarities, whether that be family dynamics, your dreams, your aspirations, and in Manish’s case, dancing,” said Helaine Meyers, festival co-chair. Emphasizing that Jewish culture has a long tradition of storytelling, she underlined the festival’s focus on showcasing how culturally diverse human experiences can intersect.
