Greenville County School Board approves budget for next year

GREENVILLE, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees voted Monday night to approve the proposed budget for next year. Officials said the proposed budget passed with an 8-4 vote following a public hearing and a final reading Monday night.

Salary Increases for Employees

According to officials, a major focus of the budget was to increase employees’ salaries. As part of the new budget, each part of the teacher salary schedule will get a $2,700 increase. Additionally, each teacher will receive a step increase, eligible non-teaching employees will receive at least a 3.5% step increase, and school nurses will receive a 5% raise.

Minimum Hourly Pay and Entry-Level Salaries

Officials added that under the new budget, the district minimum hourly pay will increase to $16.08, and the entry-level salary for teachers will become $50,505.

Focus on Student Growth and Resources

The budget also included funding for student growth, permanent substitute teachers at all schools, and an increase in resources for students with disabilities and multilingual learners.
