City of Greenville Appoints Sam Konduros as Lead of Economic Development Corporation
The city of Greenville has appointed Sam Konduros as the first president and chief executive of the economic development corporation (GCEDC). The non-profit organization, established by the city council in June, aims to implement the city’s economic development plan with a primary focus on real estate, development, business, retail, marketing, investor relations, and business recruitment. Konduros, a Clemson University and South Carolina Law School graduate, brings over 20 years of regional and statewide economic development experience to the role.
Konduros has previously served as the president of Upstate SC Alliance and the South Carolina Biotechnology Industry Organization (SCBIO). During his time at Upstate SC Alliance, he generated $1 million in funding through private sector investments and local government funding. He also nearly tripled revenue at SCBIO during his three-year tenure as president of the organization. With his extensive experience and strong relationships, Konduros is poised to lead Greenville’s economic development efforts.
Building a Powerful Machine for Economic Development
Konduros expressed his excitement and gratitude for the city’s bold approach to economic development through the establishment of the GCEDC. He sees his role as building the organization up and creating a powerful machine for economic development to bring Greenville to the next level.
One of Konduros’ top priorities will be to improve the quality of life and economic opportunities in Greenville. He plans to raise capital, make strategic investments, and foster the formation of businesses across the city. In addition, he aims to attract corporate headquarters, develop the city, promote financial technology and life sciences, and create world-class mixed-use retail projects. He also intends to support the growth of startups, small businesses, and minority-owned businesses.

Konduros envisions spending his first six months in the role developing relationships and growing existing connections between Mayor Knox White, city council members, and business owners.
