Man Sentenced for Trafficking Meth and Fentanyl in Greenville County
GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. – Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor Walt Wilkens announced that a man was recently sentenced for trafficking meth and fentanyl in Greenville County.
Sentenced to 22 Years in Prison
Officials said on February 27, 55-year-old Tony Sweet was sentenced to 22 years in prison for Trafficking In Methamphetamine 28-100 grams and Trafficking in Illegal Drugs (Fentanyl) 4-14 grams.
Details of the Incident
Evidence presented at the sentencing hearing showed that the charges stemmed from a traffic stop on October 12, 2020. Deputies said the situation began when they saw Sweet turn improperly and tried to pull him over because they knew he had a suspended driver’s license.
According to deputies, while they were trying to pull him over, Sweet abruptly stopped, got out of the car, and took off on foot. Deputies confirmed that they quickly caught Sweet and took him into custody. They added that they then searched his vehicle and found a bag containing 237.21 grams of methamphetamine and 7.64 grams of fentanyl.
Extensive Criminal History
Officials explained at the hearing that Sweet has an “extensive” criminal history dating back to 1987. They also noted that several members of the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office and Greenville Police Department attended the hearing due to the “negative impact Mr. Sweet has had on the Greenville community for several years.”
