Greenville Technical College President Sets Retirement Date

Keith Miller to Retire in July 2025 After 17 Years at the Helm

The Greenville Technical College Area Commission has approved President Keith Miller’s plan to retire in July 2025, setting into motion a national search for his successor. Miller, who has served as president of Greenville Technical College since July 2008, is the second president in the college’s history.

Miller’s tenure has been marked by numerous accomplishments, including playing a key role in helping attract new employers to the growing Upstate region. Under his leadership, Greenville County has seen nearly 18,000 new jobs and $3.9 billion in capital investment from over 220 projects since fall 2014, according to the Greenville Area Development Corp.

Workforce Training and Development

One of Miller’s most significant achievements has been in developing programs that serve the business community, particularly in workforce training and development. He was instrumental in establishing the first applied bachelor’s degree in advanced manufacturing technology, making Greenville Technical College the first in the South Carolina Technical College System to offer a four-year degree.

Gov. Henry McMaster praised this initiative in 2018, noting that it provided South Carolinians with the opportunity to contribute to one of the fastest-growing manufacturing industries in the country.

Partnerships and Collaborations

Many of Miller’s accomplishments at Greenville Technical College have been the result of strong partnerships with employers such as BMW, Michelin, Lockheed Martin, Prisma Health, and Bosch Rexroth. He has also worked closely with local, state, national, and international organizations with ties to the Upstate and South Carolina.

Miller’s collaborations have led to the development of innovative programs, including the Center for Manufacturing Innovation, which trains mechatronics technicians, machinists, and electronic technicians for advanced manufacturing. He also worked with Prisma Health to establish the Prisma Health Center for Health & Life Sciences, which opens this fall and will impact a vast number of GTC students looking to pursue careers in healthcare.

Additionally, the Truist Culinary and Hospitality Innovation Center and the upcoming Center for Workforce Development are examples of Miller’s commitment to meeting the needs of employers and students in the region.

Recognition and Achievements

Throughout his time at Greenville Technical College, Keith Miller has been recognized for his contributions to the community and the state. He has received the Order of the Palmetto and the Education Spirit Award from the Community Foundation of Greenville, among other honors.

His dedication to serving students and ensuring their success has been evident in initiatives such as the African American Male Scholars Initiative and the Collegiate Recovery Program, which provide support to students facing obstacles to their education.

Miller’s leadership extends beyond the college campus, as he has served on several boards and councils, including the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education Presidents Council and the American Association of Community Colleges.

Legacy and Future

As Keith Miller prepares to retire in July 2025, the Greenville Technical College community reflects on his legacy of collaboration, innovation, and commitment to student success. His successor will inherit a college that is well-positioned to continue meeting the needs of employers, students, and the community at large.

Miller’s impact on Greenville Technical College and the Upstate region is undeniable, and his contributions will be remembered and celebrated as he transitions into retirement.
