GREENVILLE, S.C. –

Governor Henry McMaster joined Greenville leaders on Wednesday to announce one of the largest economic development deals in the county. EnerSys will build a new facility in Greenville that will create 500 new jobs. Governor McMaster emphasized that this move puts South Carolina on the map as a growing hub for technology and innovation.

A Historic Investment

The Greenville Area Development Corporation unveiled plans for a new 500,000 square foot facility with an investment of half a billion dollars by EnerSys. Jim Burns, the Chair of GACD Board of Directors, described the development as historic, stating that it elevates Greenville’s status as a business-friendly location.

Focus on Lithium-ion Cells

EnerSys is a global company known for producing batteries for various industries, including chargers, aerospace, and transportation. The new facility at Augusta Grove Business Park will focus on manufacturing Lithium-ion cells for rechargeable batteries, catering to the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions.

Boosting Greenville’s Reputation

Greenville County Council Vice Chair Liz Semen expressed optimism about the economic impact of the new facility, stating, “Every time we get an announcement like this, we really hope it sends a signal to the rest of the world that Greenville is a great place to do business.”
