Greenville Takes Big Step with New Master Plan
It’s an exciting time to be in Greenville! On December 5th, the Planning Commission gathered together to discuss a significant proposal that could change the look and feel of one of the city’s neighborhoods. The proposed Greenline-Spartanburg Master Plan has been gaining attention, and the buzz from the community is lively!
A Fresh Start for the Neighborhood
The current plan, which was first put into action back in 2001, is in need of a makeover. The new Master Plan aims to breathe fresh life into the area bordered by East North Street, Dupont Drive, and Wade Hampton Boulevard, which sits right next to the Overbook Special Emphasis Neighborhood. Planning for this refreshed vision started in late 2023, and since March, the city has been working closely with consulting firm Arcadis to figure out what this neighborhood really needs.
Listening to the Community
One of the standout features of the planning process has been the city’s commitment to hear from the people who know the neighborhood best: the residents! Several public engagement events have been held to gather input, and it’s clear that the voices of local residents have shaped this new plan. There’s plenty of heart behind this project!
Highlights You Don’t Want to Miss
During the meeting, various highlights of the proposed plan were shared, showcasing an innovative vision for the neighborhood’s future. Residents were generally supportive of these ideas, applauding not just the creativity, but also the feasibility of making this plan a reality. People are feeling positive about what’s on the horizon.
