Greenville Moms Unite to Spread Holiday Cheer
In the heart of Greenville, South Carolina, a heartwarming initiative is taking shape as a dedicated group of mothers band together to bring some much-needed joy to kids in Western North Carolina this holiday season. With the spirit of giving in full swing, they are determined to fulfill the wish lists of children who have faced significant hardships.
The idea sparked when Rachel Farrell noticed a Facebook post from a neighbor urging help for families affected by the impacts of recent disasters. “As moms, we really felt for the families of North Carolina and so we just started brainstorming ways that we could work together long-term,” Rachel explained. This led to the birth of the Mom2Mom N.C. project, which aims to bring light to the lives of children who’ve been struggling this year.
From Inspiration to Action
Rachel, joined by her co-founder Lacey Good, launched a special initiative dubbed “Blessing in Boxes.” This project focuses on selecting children who are in dire need, gathering all of their wishes and needs to provide care during this festive time. “The whole experience is surreal,” Lacey shared, reflecting on the emotional toll this past year has taken on families. “For a while, I wasn’t able to get in touch with any of my family. I still see pictures of areas that I have known my whole life, and I’m not sure I can navigate to get to friends’ houses that I’ve had since sixth grade.”
The team at Mom2Mom has brought a light to approximately 400 kids across three local schools, who have expressed what they need most. This isn’t just about toys; the requests range from classic gifts like Legos to essential items like twin mattresses and desks for schoolwork. “It’s heartbreaking to realize that these kids are asking for needs because they have literally lost everything,” Rachel remarked.
Your Chance to Help
If you’re feeling inspired to lend a hand, now’s your chance! You can sponsor a child until Friday, after which you’ll receive a specific gift list tailored for the child you choose. “You’ll have about three weeks to shop,” said Rachel, with rising excitement. The best part? “We’re not just taking it to the supply center; we’re taking it directly to the families,” Lacey emphasized. Knowing precisely where the supplies are going is truly fulfilling for the mothers involved.
Community and Kindness
The prevailing hope amongst these mothers is to bring joy back to families who are still grappling with the aftermath of devastation. “To see roads still decimated, and flooding and houses with debris all around, it’s truly shocking. It’s important to remember that it’s not over for them,” Rachel pointed out, reminding us all of the ongoing challenges so many are still facing.
Mark Your Calendars
Ready to join in the effort? Mark your calendars! The drop-off dates for the gifts are set for Saturday, December 7 and Sunday, December 8 from noon to 4 p.m. at Lee Road Baptist Church. This is a wonderful way to spread warmth and kindness in the community, so don’t miss out on the opportunity to share some holiday spirit!
In a season where giving can make all the difference, the work being done by Rachel, Lacey, and the rest of the Mom2Mom team embodies the essence of community and compassion—reminding us all of the common goal: bringing smiles to the faces of those who need it most this holiday season.
