Spartanburg Rallies for Hurricane Helene Relief Efforts
In the heart of South Carolina, the vibrant city of Spartanburg is opening its arms wide to support those affected by the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. The Hub City Spartanburgers, the local minor league baseball team, are taking action in a big way by launching a fundraising initiative that’s sure to warm hearts and foster a sense of community.
Hurricane Helene Relief Tees: A Stylish Way to Help
For just $20, fans and supporters can purchase a special Hurricane Helene Relief Tee, with all the proceeds being directed toward essential organizations like the United Way of the Piedmont, the Red Cross, and Samaritan’s Purse. These funds will be instrumental in providing relief efforts in South Carolina and western North Carolina. On the back of each shirt, you’ll find the inspiring phrase “Carolina Strong,” a reminder of the resilience and camaraderie that characterize our communities during tough times.
So far, the response has been overwhelming, with over 600 shirts pre-ordered—that adds up to more than $7,500 in donations already! According to a release from the Spartanburgers, this shows how much our community cares and wants to help.
Community Leaders Speak Out
Paige Stephenson, President and CEO of the United Way of the Piedmont, expressed gratitude for the partnership with the Spartanburgers, saying, “We’re grateful to the Hub City Spartanburgers for making us their local partner in Helene recovery efforts.” She went on to highlight that their organization stands ready to assist from immediate response needs all the way to long-term recovery initiatives.
Tyson Jeffers, the General Manager of the Hub City Spartanburgers, shared heartfelt thoughts, stating, “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of the people, organizations, and communities that have been impacted by Hurricane Helene. We sincerely hope the donations being made can directly assist those in need.”
More Ways to Contribute
If you’re not in Spartanburg, don’t worry! The spirit of giving is spreading across cities. In nearby Greenville, the Greenville Police Department has teamed up with the Bon Secours Wellness Arena to collect donations for the Greenville Humane Society and Greenville County Animal Care. As part of the effort, they welcomed 18 pets from the Asheville Humane Society, all of which have found forever homes—more animals are set to come, so contributions in the form of pet food and supplies are greatly needed!
Additionally, the Greenville Drive is selling relief T-shirts for $25 to support the Asheville Tourists Baseball Club’s relief endeavors. All proceeds will go directly to help those in the region severely affected by the hurricane.
A Musical Benefit for Hurricane Relief
And if you’re a fan of music, mark your calendars for a special live stream concert titled Sonic Sunshine on Friday at 8 p.m. This concert will feature talented artists like Edwin McCain and Darius Rucker, among others, all coming together to raise funds for hurricane relief. The best part? 100% of the donations collected during the concert will go directly to charities like World Central Kitchen, Direct Relief, Feeding the Carolinas, and Brother Wolf Animal Rescue.
McCain rallyingly posted on his social media, encouraging everyone to join in for “a show of unity and support to raise critical funds for hurricane relief.” It’s a wonderfully inviting approach that illustrates how we can all come together as a community.
