GREENVILLE, S.C. — The Bon Secours Wellness Arena, also known as The Well, may well be ready to usher in a new era — one that is set to elevate the entertainment experience to unprecedented heights. A recent proposal set to be presented to the Greenville County Committee on Finance underscores plans for a whopping $170M renovation and revitalization plan.
The proposal includes plans for updating various sections of the arena ranging from concession stands, restrooms, and hospitality areas to ADA amenities, locker rooms, and star dressing rooms, seats, and scoreboard. The projected $170 million in funding for these wide-ranging renovations intends to ensure the Greenville landmark continues to outshine others in the region.
It is worth noting that concert sales at The Well have surged by nearly 23 percent since 2018, a figure that trumps the performance of Atlanta, Charlotte, and Columbia so far this year. The venue has ranked as the 13th top-selling arena in the country, a testament to its popularity and the quality of entertainment it offers to its visitors.
An overhaul of such magnitude should cement Bon Secours Wellness Arena’s position as one of the premier venues for entertainment in the country, enabling it to attract premier events and bigger crowds, thus boosting the local economy.
The Bon Secours Wellness Arena Capital Improvements and Revitalization Program is actively seeking the considerable sum needed for this major revamp. On the table, is a petition for $70 million in general obligation bonds to be channeled towards the total sum required for the renovations. The Finance Committee will play a crucial role in deciding whether the request will proceed.
If approved, this renovation will not only breathe a new lease of life into the Arena but could also be a significant boost for the city of Greenville at large. Such an upgrade would potentially drive more tourism to the city, leading to the creation of additional job opportunities and enhanced revenue streams. The ripple effect of this can spur further growth and prosperity, providing a solid foundation for future generations.
As the city of Greenville awaits the decision from the Finance Committee, the hopes are high that the project will be green-lighted, marking the start of an exciting new chapter in the city’s cultural landscape.
